The quick route
Manga-first route
Skip:
- Bount storyline: episodes 64–109
- New Captain Shūsuke Amagai arc: episodes 168–189
Consider watching:
- Zanpakutō arc: episodes 230–265
- Reigai or Gotei 13 Invading Army arc: episodes 317–341
- Selected standalone episodes, including 228, 287, 298, 305, and 355
This route is best if your goal is to reach the main story quickly.
Complete-viewing route
Watch everything, but save the optional arcs for after the main canon route if the pacing becomes frustrating.
That order solves the biggest problem with Bleach filler: an anime-original arc can feel worse when it interrupts the main plot than when it is watched as a separate side story.
Why “skip all filler” is too simple
The community does not agree on one universal answer.
The Bount material is the clearest example. Some viewers describe it as the weakest long filler block and recommend skipping it completely. Another viewer says it is the best arc. Both opinions can be useful because they answer different questions.
If you want manga speed, skip it.
If you want the experience of watching every Bleach side story, keep it and judge it as an anime-original story instead of expecting it to behave like the manga.
The same split appears with the Zanpakutō and Reigai arcs. One group values their character moments and fights. Another group dislikes them because the events are not carried forward into the main story.
The practical decision rule
Use this order:
- Skip a long filler block when it interrupts the main plot.
- Finish the next canon block.
- Return to optional arcs when you want more character material.
- Decide on standalone episodes separately instead of skipping every filler label automatically.
This gives you a reversible choice. You can protect your viewing time without permanently losing the episodes that might suit you.
Episode-number conversion
Bleach uses two numbering systems after the original television run.
The original series ends at episode 366. The later Thousand-Year Blood War series starts its own arc numbering at episode 1, while some databases also call it overall episode 367.
The useful crosswalk is:
Original Bleach episode 366
→ manga material ends around chapter 479
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War episode 1
→ starts with manga chapter 480
→ covers chapters 480–484
→ also appears as overall Bleach episode 367 in some episode databasesSo if a streaming service shows “Bleach episode 366” and then switches to “Thousand-Year Blood War episode 1,” that is not a missing episode. It is a new series label for the continuation.
The filler arcs do not have manga-chapter equivalents because they are anime-original stories. Do not invent a manga chapter number for them.
A dated comparison of the advice
| Date | Anonymous speaker | What they recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 2011-01-25 | Community poster | A “what if” story like the Zanpakutō idea could be worth watching instead of using filler only as a delay. |
| 2013-03-24 | Anime Q&A participant | Use a skip list for a faster first route, then continue from the next manga section after the original anime. |
| 2014-11-06 | Filler-list fan | Recommended selected filler such as episodes 257–265, 305, 304, 355, 228, 298, 132, 230–256, and 287. |
| 2020-08-15 | Forum discussion | Several replies recommended skipping Bount while keeping Zanpakutō and Reigai; one reply gave the opposite advice and recommended watching Bount. |
| 2021-03-07 to 2021-03-08 | Bleach community participants | Different replies separated the Bount, Beast Swords, Gotei 13, Amagai, and Zanpakutō material instead of treating all filler as one category. |
The disagreement is the useful part of the list: “filler” describes how the episode was made, not whether every viewer should skip it.
When you should not follow the fast route
Do not use the manga-first route automatically if:
- You are rewatching Bleach for character moments.
- You enjoy anime-original villains and side stories.
- You prefer completing a series rather than reaching the main plot quickly.
- You are already inside an arc and stopping would damage your viewing rhythm.
- You want to judge the Bount, Amagai, Zanpakutō, or Reigai material on its own terms.
For a first watch with limited time, skip the longest detours first. For a completionist watch, keep everything and use the list only to understand where the main story pauses.

The downloadable crosswalk separates anime-only arcs from the series-number handoff, so you can keep the episode range without inventing manga chapters for filler stories.
